Skinfood Peach Sake Pore BB Cream

Peach Pore Sake BB Cream and Emulsion
BB creams seem to be the hot new product these days and I've been wanting to try one for a while.  BB stands for blemish balm or beauty balm, and these multi-taskers go beyond just providing color and coverage, also treating your skin while providing protection from the sun with their high SPF content.  At least the Asian BB creams do.  While many US based brands are now releasing their version of BB creams, they seem to be more of a tinted moisturizer and lack the high SPF or skin treatment components, based on most of the reviews I've read.

So, for my first foray into BB creams, I ordered Skinfood's Peach Sake Pore BB cream.  Skinfood is a Korean brand, and while they do have some stores in the US, none are near me.  I ordered from a company called Seoul Glamour via Amazon, resigned myself to waiting 6-8 weeks since it was being shipped from South Korea, and was then pleasantly surprised to receive it in 2 weeks!  Seoul Glamour also sent me some sample packets of other Skinfood products, so I'm quite happy with my experience with them thus far.

Peach Sake Pore BB cream is a blemish balm and contains Peach extract which is supposed to soothe oily, troubled skin, and Sake to control excessive sebum secretion.  Described as light textured, it helps conceal skin impurities while giving a natural coverage.  I got #2 Natural Beige, the darker of the 2 shades available.  BB creams are supposed to adjust to your skin tone after application, and Natural Beige matches my skin tone very well.  I was a bit skeptical about this self adjusting stuff, but I'm convinced now!

The texture is creamy and blends easily, providing enough coverage that I'm using it in place of a foundation during the hot weather months.  The sun protection level in this is a relatively low SPF20, so I've been setting this with a tinted powder that also has an SPF of 30.  I'm trying to reform my non sunscreen wearing ways, and the combination of these two products has solved the problem of having to wear an SPF that is shiny or oily, my main complaints when it comes to sunscreens.

The tube is rather small at 30 ml, but one pump provides ample coverage for my entire face.  I've been using it almost daily for about 5 weeks now and have half the tube left, so I'm thinking one tube every 2-3 months is a realistic expectation.  Fortunately, I paid less than $15, which included $4.99 in shipping.  Now that I know the Peach Sake Pore BB cream works well for me, I'll purchase several at a time.

I also got the Peach Sake Pore Emusion ($13.29), which is supposed to minimize shine and the appearance of pores.  It does mattify my skin a bit and make my pores look smaller when first applied, but I cannot tell that either product has helped reduce sebum production.  My skin still gets shiny after a few hours, but I'm not sure anything will ever help with that.

Overall, I'm happy that my first experience with a BB cream worked out so well!  I'll probably try a few more just to see how they compare, but I do see myself repurchasing the Peach Sake Pore BB cream!

Disclosure:  I purchased these.

  2. You should try japanese sunscreens! They're very watery and not oily at all! :)

    1. I've heard that! I wonder why US sunscreens are so sub par in comparison?
