NOTD: China Glaze Electrify and Riveting

As much as I enjoyed Riveting on its own, I was itching to try Electrify over it.  If Riveting is an in your face color (and it is), then pairing it with Electrify just amps it up even more.  Quite appropriate for "girl on fire" Katniss Everdeen, heroine of "The Hunger Games", the book series and inspiration for this China Glaze Capital Colours collection.

I used one coat of Electrify over two coats of Riveting.  Since the glitter was rough, I used one coat of Gelous and one coat of Seche Vite on top, which smoothed things out nicely.  While the glitter did not dry dull, adding the two top coats did brighten things up even more.

China Glaze Capital Colours Mini Set

The Capital Colours mini set is an exlusive from Ulta.  I love mini sets as rarely do I make it through a full size bottle of nail polish, plus it allows me to try out some shades I might not have been drawn to initially.  The set contains Fast Track, Agro, Smoke, and Ashes, and Luxe and Lush.  I've been wanting Agro since I first started seeing swatches online, so this set was a no brainer!

Each of the polishes represents one of the twelve districts in "The Hunger Games" trilogy.  Fast Track, a medium beige with gold micro flecks, represents District 6's transportation sector.

Agro is a dark loden golden green, fitting for District 11's agriculture industry.

Smoke, And Ashes to my eye looks like a black base with teal micro glitter.  I can see some purple flashes in the bottle as well.  The shade appropriately depicts District 12's mining industry, and could perhaps reference the unfortunate fate of that district as well.

Luxe and Lush is a layering top coat comprised of jagged flecks of color shifting mylar, and represents District 1's luxury goods industry.

The mini-set is $13.95 at Ulta.  My local store had not gotten any of the Capital Colours in as of last week, so I ordered online.

"The odds are never in the favor of homely nails." -Effie Trinket

Capital Couture, a style blog inspired by the best selling book and forthcoming movie "The Hunger Games",  launched this week at Tumblr.  Feature articles in this first issue include a profile of Effie Trinket, played by Elizabeth Banks in the film, the pink coiffed style maven who is escort for District 12's heroine and tribute Katniss Everdeen.  Check out the nail tips from a Capital stylist.

China Glaze's  collection "Colours from the Capital", to be released on March 1st, also receives a nod.   Polish names now refer to each of the twelve districts, although the original polish names leaked on the web were based on various characters in "The Hunger Games".  The name changes happened after Lionsgate was slapped with a $10 million lawsuit by the parent company of China Glaze after they said Lionsgate tried to improperly terminate their contract.  Uh oh.

Polish Names:
Luxe and Lush – District 1 (Luxury)
Stone Cold – District 2 (Masonry)
Riveting – District 3 (Technology)
Hook and Line – District 4 (Fishing)
Electrify – District 5 (Power)
