NOTD: Jelly Sandwich with Jolly Lolly and Unwrap Me

It's been a while since I did a jelly sandwich, and this week I must have been in the mood for strawberry jam.  Cause that's what's on my nails, no lie.
Actually, it's the pinky red Jolly Lolly by L'Oreal, and Unwrap Me from the Sinful Colors 2013 Holiday collection.  My Rite Aid had a special a few weeks back where you could get one Sinful Color polish for free, so I chose the black and red glitter bomb Unwrap Me.
You can see how pink leaning Jolly Lolly is as it's almost the color of the rose above.  Really beautiful, and I'm kind of wishing I had a backup now.  It takes only 2 coats to get this level of color, which is not always the case with jelly polishes.
I never get tired of black glitter polishes, and Unwrap me has a nice mixture of black micro glitter and larger hexagonals in black and red.  I used one coat of Unwrap me in between Jolly Lolly, and I mainly dabbed it on and then spread it out.  I used Julep's base coat and Freedom gel top coat, which amped the shine even more.
I'm counting this as the beginning of my holiday looks, although I think it would be great during the summer as well.  And heck, the temp is 75 as I write this, so it might as well be :-)

NOTD: Jelly Sandwich with Minnie Style and Bubble Trouble

I recently picked up the OPI Couture de Minnie set of mini polishes and a full size bottle of the glitter from this collection, Minnie Style.  As soon as I saw Minnie Style I knew I wanted to do a jelly sandwich.  Since there is no jelly polish in OPI's newest Minnie Mouse collection, I turned instead to Bubble Trouble, part of the "Miss Candy" L'Oreal Colour Riche collection of 8 jelly polishes.
Bubble Trouble impressed me as it definitely has a jelly finish, but is more opaque than other jellies I've tried.  This translates to using less layers to achieve the jelly sandwich effect, saving a bit of time.  Nice!  The soft bubblegum pink color complemented the white, red, and magenta hexagon glitters of Minnie Style quite well, I think.
I found dabbing Minnie Style on and then pushing the glitter bits around with the brush worked best.  This allowed me to use only one layer of the glitter, sandwiched between two coats of Bubble Trouble.  I used Seche Vite's base coat and Butter London's Quick Dry top coat to finish.
I also have the red jelly from the Miss Candy polishes, and if these interest you, there is a BOGO offer on L'Oreal products at Rite Aid this week, plus you can print a coupon for $3 off of 3 L'Oreal nail polishes here that is good through June 14th. I can also see a white jelly such as OPI's Don't Touch my Tutu! paired with Minnie Style making a nice peppermint stick/Christmas look.  Lot's of versatility here!

NOTD: Peach jelly sandwich

Love Letters, Traffic Stopper Copper
I decided to try another jelly sandwich manicure, this time with China Glaze's Love Letters and my favorite single color glitter polish, Traffic Stopper Copper by Sephora by OPI.  Love Letters is a very sheer peach with a jelly finish.  The first two coats looked like a clear polish, and unfortunately the brush was a bit wonky with uneven bristles.  I had some bubbling, but they don't show up in the finished look.

I then did two coats of Traffic Stopper Copper, followed by another two coats of Love Letters.  If you count the base and top coats, that's 8 layers of polish.  Fortunately, I managed to not smudge it during the drying phase.

It takes of minimum of 3 coats for Love Letters to start looking like it does in the bottle, but that's not unusual with lighter colored jellies.  Of course, my experience has mainly been with OPI's ballet series, and it took lots of coats to get them to show up.  I can say that Love Letters performed much better than they did, with no streaking at all.

I do love the lit from within quality that comes from sandwiching Traffic Stopper Copper between Love Letters.  I don't like that my natural nails are a bit yellow from polishing, and of course you've got some visible nail line here.  Oh well, I can live with it.

Disclosure:  I purchased these.

NOTD: Ya'll Come Back Ya Hear? and Rainbow Connection Jelly Sandwich

Thought I'd try a jelly sandwich since I recently got OPI's Ya'll Come Back Ya Hear?, my first polish with a jelly or sorbet (as OPI calls this particular translucent, squishy looking finish).  When I was looking at glitters to use, Rainbow Connection from last year's OPI Muppets Collection jumped out at me and seemed like a good candidate given it's multi-colored glitters in various shapes and sizes.

I used two coats of Ya'll Come Back, then one coat of Rainbow Connection, topped with two more coats of Ya'll Come Back and one of Seche Vite.  Otherwise know as a jelly sandwich.  Ya'll Come Back applied very well and would probably require about 3 coats on it's own for opaqueness.  Rainbow Connection is a dense glitter and was a bit gloppy, so I had to push it around some for placement.

This orange jelly polish may become a favorite, as I love the shade and ease of application.   I got it as part of the OPI File in Style set, a nice way to discover some polishes that were not on my radar.  In fact, I may have to look for some more jelly polishes, as I really like the finish on them!
