Mattify! Cosmetics: Harmony Blush and Earth Angel Eyeshadow Review

Mattify! Cosmetics specializes in making products for oily skin.  Yesterday I reviewed their face powders, but today we'll be looking at a blush and eyeshadow from their collection:  Harmony and Earth Angel.  Oily skin can decrease the wear time of most makeup products, leading to fading and breakdown long before you are through with your day or night.  Other than lip gloss, I'm not one to bring makeup with me to do touchups.  So, anything that purports to be long wearing is going to appeal to me! 

Harmony

Mattify blushes contain the same ingredients as their face powders, namely oil absorbing Kaolin clay, cornstarch, silica spheres, rice powder, and titanium dioxide.  Available in 3 colors, Harmony, Strawberry Wine, and Terra Cotta, I chose Harmony ($14) to try out.  The description said it provides just a barely-there hint of color to help brighten your complexion, making it best for those with fair complexions.

Harmony is finely milled and applies smoothly.  I did not find that it looked powdery on, and it gave just enough color to make a nice neutral blush for when I'm emphasizing a bolder lip or eye look, or just want a natural look.  I'd say the main limitation of the blushes are that there are only 3 available shades at this point.

Earth Angel is also billed as long lasting, containing the same oil absorbing  Kaolin clay mixture as the other Mattify products.  Shadows definitely crease on me without an eye primer, and sometimes even with one.  If I can get through an 8 hour period without my shadows creasing, I'm doing well. So, to have a shadow with oil absorbing qualities....well, I'm guessing you know how I feel about that :-)  Mattify claims that you do not need to use a primer with their shadows, but I did out of habit.  Regardless, Earth Angel wore quite well without creasing.

I chose a neutral color as those are the ones I wear the most, and Earth Angel ($4.99) is described as a neutral champagne tone to brighten and warm any complexion.  It has a lovely shimmer and makes for a nice topper over other shadows, adding both shimmer and complexity without looking frosty.  I found it very versatile!  Mattify shadows can also be used wet for more intense color or as a liner and are safe for lip use as well.  There are a variety of colors available, which you can view here.

Overall, quite pleased with both Earth Angel and Harmony, and glad to have been introduced to Mattify! Cosmetics:-) 

Girly Pink Blush by Just Pure Minerals

Tuesday was one of those perfect, slightly cool, crisp spring mornings.  I don't know how you approach what makeup or even outfit you decide on for the day, but mine often flows from whatever emotional state I'm in or other environmental influences.  Tuesday felt golden pink, so I went with it :-)

I received a Girly Pink blush sample as part of my last The Natural Beauty Box.  Made by Just Pure Minerals from pure crushed mica and iron oxides, it contains no synthetic dyes or fragrances, no animal by-products, parabens, or bismuth oxychloride.  While loose mineral powders can be a pain in the butt, there is no denying the variety, value, and lovely finishes that can be found there.  Just Pure Mineral blushes are $12 for 6 grams, but samples are available for $1.  Look at the delicate color and shimmer in this! 

On my eyes I blended Maybelline's Color Tattoo in Bold Gold from lash line to crease, and used The All Natural Face's shadow Pink Gold on the inner eye.  I used Urban Decay's Baked 24/7 eyeliner (perhaps my all time favorite liner, now sadly discontinued) on upper and lower lash lines, and then used Bourbon over Baked on the upper lash line to deepen it a bit.  I also used the shadow Honey from stila's In the Garden palette to deepen the crease a bit.

I haven't cut my hair since September, when I cropped it to chin length and it looked like this.  I wasn't wild about the cut, and I'm currently not sure what direction to go in next.  I do have a new stylist to try out, however, so maybe that will get me motivated.

My current hair length and attempt at the tousled, beach hair look.  I read somewhere that 90's grunge hair was featured on fashion runways this spring, so maybe I'll just go with that trend :- )

Touch of Rose Vegan Shimmer Blush by The All Natural Face

I'm still slowly working my way though wearing all of the mineral blushes I got in my variety sampler from The All Natural Face.  A Touch of a Rose is contains a silvery shimmer in a medium rose colored base.  At first I was a bit concerned about the shimmer, but it actually looks quite natural!

Initially, I thought A Touch of Rose would be a neutral leaning color, but it swatches warm to my eye.  Pigmentation is very good and it applies smoothly.  Wear time for me is a good 8-9 hours, and I can still see traces of blush after a long day.

Prices range from $3.50 for a 5 gram jar on up to $21.95, with samples available for .35 cents.  I find The All Natural Face to be reasonably priced with a great color range. although the online swatches available at the site are almost useless.  Hence my efforts to slowly catalog all the ones I own!

Really Pink and Cotton Candy Mineral Blushes by The All Natural Face

I'm still working my way through the mineral blushes that I received in the Get Started Green sampler kit I bought from The All Natural Face, and I seriously have yet to find one that I either did not like or could not wear.  Today I've got a pale cool pink matte called Really Pink and a slightly warmer and darker pink shimmer called Cotton Candy to show you.

I was a bit concerned that these would be too pale for my complexion, but they actually give just enough of a hint of pink. 

Cotton Candy

Really Pink was the more powdery of the two and consequently needed blending out a bit more.  Cotton Candy has a really nice shimmer and was the better of the two for my warmer coloring.  

For below, I started with Really Pink and then topped it with Cotton Candy.  What surprised me the most was how flattering Cotton Candy was as a highlighter on the bridge of my nose and forehead, although I'm not sure you can tell from the pictures.

I continue to be impressed with The All Natural Face vegan mineral blushes, from both their selection of colors to how well they perform.  Prices are reasonable and there are a variety of sizes available, and I'm slowly narrowing down my list of those I'll be purchasing once I run out of the sample packets.  Cotton Candy has made the list!

Antique Brick Mineral Blush by The All Natural Face

I've been impressed with The All Natural Face blushes, from their range of colors to their blendability and overall finish.  Antique Brick is a loose mineral blush and is described as a dusty brick color, which pretty much nails it.  I tend to think of it as a neutral that leans warm. 

I'm currently counting 27 different colors of blush on TANF's site, and I purchased a sampler set that included all of these.  There is enough in each packet to get multiple wears, so it's a great way to try out the blushes before deciding what works for you.  I'm determined to swatch each one, as I found it difficult to find good pictures of these online.

Tequila Sunrise Mineral Blush by The All Natural Face

I admit it, I'm fickle and crave variety when it comes to makeup.  I've got a few holy grail items I don't stray from (much), but my attention wanders a bit for most others.  For example, I've been wearing BB creams all summer, and prior to that it was liquid foundation.  But now, I'm falling back in love with loose mineral makeup.  Not just foundation, but blushes and eye shadows as well.  So, you will probably be seeing quite a few posts featuring various mineral products I'm playing with at the moment.

First up is a blush by The All Natural Face called Tequila Sunrise, which surprisingly I was unable to find any other swatches of online.  I've reviewed some shadows by The All Natural Face before, but I recently ordered their Get Started Green deluxe sampler that includes all colors of their foundations in the pale to medium range and all of their blushes.  I can't think of a better way to get a feel for a line as well as really figure out what colors work for you.  I'm guestimating each packet probably has enough product for 5-7 uses.

Tequila Sunrise mineral blush

I've got to say, Tequila Sunrise is one I think is working for me:-)  Described simply as a coral colored blush, Tequila Sunrise has a warmth and subtle shimmer which makes it very wearable for my fair to medium, warm toned complexion.  It was easy to work with and build up color. 

For those unfamiliar with The All Natural Face, it is a vegan cosmetics line which uses no artificial ingredients in their products.  So, no bismuth, no talc, no carmine, no silk powder, no D & C lake colors and no parabens, for those concerned about such things.  Prices are reasonable and the selection is vast.  This is my second time ordering and it's been easy and problem free both times.
