Anatomy 24/7 Eye Pencil by Urban Decay

I purchased two items from the limited edition Jean-Michel Basquiat collection by Urban Decay: the Gold Griot palette and the 24/7 eye pencil in Anatomy. I was actually surprised at how quickly the items went on sale after being released, but that's a good thing if you are still trying to decide on if you want to purchase, although they are quickly going out of stock. I picked up Anatomy on sale, and it's a stunner.

I wasn't sure how the vibrant orange terracotta would look on, but it's surprisingly wearable. The formula is spot-on: creamy, intensely pigmented, and opaque. Probably one of the better 24/7 eye pencils I've tried, and I've tried most of them.

Here I'm wearing Anatomy over a light wash of several of the shadows from the Gold Griot palette, namely Enigma and Influence.

Mobile is currently experiencing day two of non-stop rain from Tropical Storm Cindy, which has got me feeling lackluster, tired, and ready for some sunshine. Which doesn't look like will be available anytime soon, as tomorrow is another day with steady rain.  See that red area? Yeah, that's Alabama in the bottom middle.

On top of that, my Westie Lulu is at the vet with some hard to diagnosis illness that scared the bejesus out of me when I came home on Monday. She's going to be 15 this year and I initially thought she was experiencing acute kidney failure based on her symptoms, although it now appears to be some some of bacterial infection perhaps brought on by her no longer functioning thyroid. She's still not eating or drinking so cannot come home yet, which makes me sad:-( But, on the bright side, it's not kidney failure. Rain, rain, go away and Lulu come home.

The Spring Blues

Every spring I seem to veer towards wearing bright eyeliner with a neutral toned lid.  Something about it feels fresh yet vibrant, kind of like spring itself.  To that end, Urban Decay's 24/7 eye pencils in Chaos, Electric, and Deep End were released from the vault.

Chaos is a dark periwinkle matte blue, Electric is a bright turquoise shimmer, and Deep End is a vibrant teal shimmer.

I love using bareMinerals 5-in-1 BB Cream eyeshadow in Barely Nude as an eye base, as it is a perfect match for my skin tone and both smooths out my lid while minimizing imperfections.  It's not a true matte as there is a very subtle shimmer that keeps it from falling flat without registering as a visible shimmer.

To add a bit more shimmer I then topped it with the #8 flesh colored My Parisian Pastels shimmer cube by Lancome (full review here).  Chaos then adds a hint of color without screaming "colored eyeliner!".  I used Estee Lauder's LE Sumptuous Color mascara in extreme indigo on my bottom lashes to provide a bit more blue to my lower lash line.  I really like how this turned out.

For this look I used Deep End on my upper lash line and Electric on my lower lash line and paired them with a light gold shimmer (#7 My Parisian Pastel) and soft orange matte shadows (stila Clay) over Barely Nude.

LSD 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil by Urban Decay

Now, I already owned the 24/7 Glide-On eye pencil in LSD, having received it in the Eye Vault that Urban Decay released several years ago.  However, it took receiving the travel sized version in a recent Ulta GWP to bring it back into my awareness. 

A navy shimmer with bright turquoise micro-sparkle, I like the effect that LSD gives along the upper and lower lash lines.  That's about as much sparkle as I'm comfortable with, plus LSD does not really lay down smooth opaque color, as you can see in the swatch.

I wear contact lens but had no issue with LSD irritating my eyes or with the micro-glitter migrating.  In general, Urban Decay 24/7 pencils wear well on my oily lids, although I do experience slight smudging in the corners of my eyes after 4-5 hours of wear.  I attribute that to the oil from my lids, which breaks down pretty much everything.

In this look, I'm wearing Maybelline's Creamy Beige Color Tattoo cream shadow as an all over base, and LSD along the upper and lower lash lines.  I used Lorac's Front of the Line Pro liquid eyeliner in Navy along the upper lash line for a bit more definition.  I like how it turned out!

Binge 24/7 Eye Pencil by Urban Decay: Swatches and EOTD

Ever since the discontinued 24/7 eye pencils by Urban Decay were put on sale, I've been slowly collecting almost every one of them.  I have Binge in a teeny tiny travel sized version, but for $6, I figured why not get a full sized one?  I really had not used the tiny version very often, and swatches I'd seen online had me thinking Binge was not that impressive, so I waffled back and forth for quite a while.

Here is why I thought Binge was not that impressive - it applies a bit patchy.  It's a gorgeous color, but definitely not opaque.  On the plus side, it is extremely easy to use as a base color for powder shadow, as the texture is soft and creamy enough to easily apply to my lid.

So then the proverbial light bulb went off and I thought "why not use Evidence from the Urban Decay Smoked palette on top?"  Evidence is another problematic on it's own color, IMO.  The first time I tried using it back in April as an all over lid color it was patchy city, as you can see below.  It was a nightmare on it's own and definitely needs something to stick to.  Maybe mine's a dud?

Here I did a cat eye, layering Binge first and then smudging Evidence closer to the lash line, topped with a very thin black line of Le Metier de Beaute's Noir eyeliner.  Mascara is the underwhelming and clumpy Lorac Special Effects that I received in the Hautelook summer beauty bag.  The graduation of color gives it just enough color without overwhelming my small eyes, and I love the effect!

So count me happy that I finally spent $6 to acquire the full sized version of Binge.  Both Sephora online and Urban Decay still have it in stock, but colors are getting sold out and disappearing forever (okay, there is still ebay and such).  Happy Labor Day!

Asphyxia 24/7 Eye Pencil by Urban Decay

Asphyxia was a previously exclusive color in the Urban Decay 24/7 eye pencil color range, but is now part of the permanent line up of colors.  A soft pinkish purple with blue sparkles, Asphyxia has a nice blue duochrome shift that is quite lovely!  The name for this color is appropriate, if a bit ghoulish, as lack of oxygen can cause a bluish tint to the skin.  There is actually a medical condition called "blue asphyxia" (asphyxia livida) that affects newborns.  There's your geekery for the day. 

Since I acquired the Urban Decay 24/7 Pencil Vault, I've been trying to use some of the colors I would not normally gravitate towards.  I've been pleasantly surprised to find that many of the colors I wouldn't think I could wear actually look good, which has expanded my horizon :-)

A good eye shadow to pair with Asphyxia is Urban Decay's Omen from the 15th Anniversary palette.  It's the middle color in the picture below, and also has that nice blue shift to it.  I used both Omen and Asphyxia for the look above.

Urban Decay Vintage 24/7 Eye Pencils in Crash, Graffiti, and Lucky

Urban Decay recently put their vintage (aka, soon to be discontinued) colors of 24/7 eye pencils on sale for $9.50, half of their regular price.  I picked out 3 I've had my eye on for a while:  Crash, Graffiti, and Lucky.

Crash is a deep eggplant purple with silver micro glitter.  This is the type of purple that looks best on me, I've found.

Graffiti is a medium green with silver micro glitter.  I love greens and have been waiting on the vintage pencils to go on sale just so I could get this one.  Despite all the greens I have, none are a dupe for Graffiti.

Lucky is a deep copper in a blackened base with silver micro glitter.  I was most on the fence about Lucky when I was choosing colors, but there is a complexity in the color that is gorgeous.

My only regret is not getting Covet as well, which is now sold out.  Funny how I usually end up regretting my attempts at frugality over my splurges.  Hmmm.
